This conventional steel and masonry structure, complete with a clock tower, adds a traditional look to the strip mall concept. The shopping center has two out parcels available for new construction. SA phase two expansion is planned. Several tenants are now in operation including the Mexican restaurant “El Meson de Fuentes,” a bakery “The Flour Shoppe”, a hair salon and a dry cleaner.

This mixed-use center located on the main street of Apex and near the Town Hall won an “Appearance Award” in the Town of Apex. It utilizes a train station influence, reflecting the Town’s humble beginnings in its design and has multiple offices above the ground floor retail spaces. There is an internal elevator for the convenience of the office visitors.
Since this project was built for an experienced multifamily homebuilder, all aspects of the construction were under the so called “microscope” and was thankfully completed with everyone extremely happy with the final result.

Looking closely at the canopy which hovers over this retail center’s front entry doors, one might notice that there is a continuous concrete awning suspended by steel rods. This somewhat pricey element represents an architectural statement that was important to both the client and their architect. The repeat client, a man and wife couple comprised of a sculptor/artist and a restauranteur, placed a high importance on certain artistic details, even though they were not always readily apparent.
The site was a challenging one on which grade had to be introduced in order to handle storm water and sidewalks became minor retaining walls that still met the prevailing codes. This small center features only few boutique retail spaces befitting such an artistic expression. It is the sister building to the first project Metrocon built on the same site.
